Bolton New Year's Day attack: Man critically injured

A man has been critically injured in an attack in Bolton on New Year's Day.

The 28-year-old man was discovered unconscious in Pole Street, Tonge Moor, at about 03:00 GMT on Sunday. He was taken to hospital with head injuries.

Shortly before the attack the man had been at a party in Eldon Street, where there was a disturbance, police said.

He left, making his way along Eldon Road, Stone Street and Pole Street - where he was attacked.

Det Ch Insp Sarah Jackson, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "We are asking for anyone who may have seen or heard this attack in the early hours of New Year's Day morning to come forward and speak to us.

"We have a team of officers working to establish who is responsible for this assault, which has left a man unconscious in hospital."
