Shotguns and rifles taken in Wigan gun shop burglary

Fifteen shotguns have been stolen from a gun shop in Wigan.

The guns, along with eight air rifles, were taken from the store on School Lane in Standish on Thursday night.

Three offenders are thought to have escaped with the weapons in a stolen silver Honda Civic.

Det Sgt Graham Clare, of Greater Manchester Police, said officers wanted to get the guns taken off the streets "as soon as possible".

No ammunition was taken in the break-in and Mr Clare said he would like to hear from anyone with information about the guns or the car.

"Understandably, people in the area will be concerned when they hear about the theft of these firearms," he said.

"I would like to try and reassure them we have a team of detectives working to find those responsible and recover these weapons, to try and take them off the streets as soon as possible.

"We are appealing for the community to help us in our efforts to do this, by contacting us if they know the whereabouts of these guns or if they hear of anyone offering them for sale."
