Man critical after 'savage' attack in Tyldesley

Three men have been arrested after a 48-year-old man was critically injured when subjected to a "savage" attack by a gang in Greater Manchester.

The man had been out with his 23-year-old son in Tyldesley on Saturday night. They were last seen in Bar M in Lime Street in the early hours of Sunday.

At about 01:30 GMT, the man was chased by up to five men along Elliott Street and Wareing Street.

He was attacked in Upper George Street by at least two men.

The man's son suffered facial injuries.

Two men, aged 19 and 18, are being questioned on suspicion of assault. The third, also 18, has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Det Sgt Joanne Clawson, of Greater Manchester Police, described the attack as savage.

She appealed to anyone with information to contact the force.
