Girl raped in Farnworth alleyway as she walked home

A 16-year-old girl was raped as she walked home in Greater Manchester early on Saturday.

The girl was grabbed from behind in Egerton Street, Farnworth, and dragged into a nearby alley off Lomax Street at 01:30 GMT, police said.

The attacker pushed the girl to the ground and then raped her. She got up and ran away before calling for help.

Greater Manchester Police said the victim was left deeply upset by her ordeal.

Det Sgt Darren Wiggans, of Bolton CID, said: "We are at the very early stages of the investigation so I cannot go into too many details about what happened.

"Incidents like this quite rightly cause some concern in the community, but I want to reassure everyone that we are treating this extremely seriously."
