Delays on M60 after sheep trailer overturns

Motorists faced long delays on the M60 in Greater Manchester after a trailer overturned.

The trailer, which was being pulled by a four wheel drive vehicle, was carrying sheep when it crashed near junction 17 at about 12:45 GMT.

Some of the sheep died in the accident. All three lanes were closed clockwise while the debris was cleared.

Traffic was queuing back to junction 5 at Carrington before the carriageway reopened.

Highways Agency spokesman David Cronan said: "We had to get vehicles through the queue in order to transfer the animals, both live and dead, before we could recover the rest of the vehicle involved.

"We have reopened the motorway now".
