A lorry has careered down an embankment off the M6 after a collision with a car on the motorway.

The crash happened shortly after 07:30 GMT on Thursday between junctions 21 and 21a north of Lymm.

Three casualties have been taken to Warrington hospital, including a 40-year-old lorry driver with arm and shoulder injuries.

The Highways Agency has reopened three lanes of the M6 northbound, after the road was closed on Thursday morning.

The nearside lane is closed while spilled grain is cleared from the carriageway.

A badly crushed red Volvo V50 has been removed from the scene of the incident.

All three casualties were said to be in a stable condition.
