The body of a woman who had sustained a number of injuries has been found on a road in Manchester.

Officers were called to Upper Brook Street in the Longsight area of the city at about 10:00 BST.

A 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, but police said he had since been released.

Supt Wasim Chaudhry, of Greater Manchester Police, said they were currently treating the incident as a road traffic collision.

He said: "We have currently not had reports of any missing people in the area, and we would urge anyone who has concerns to call us as soon as possible.

"I want to reassure local residents that we have a team of very experienced officers working on this investigation."
