Arson attack at former care home in Blackley

An arson attack caused £50,000 worth of damage to a former nursing home in north Manchester.

The fire was started at the building on Coldstream Avenue in Blackley between 20:00 and 21:00 BST last Wednesday.

Greater Manchester Police said the blaze spread from the conservatory to the main building causing extensive damage, but no-one was injured.

Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area is being urged to contact them.

Det Con Paddy Connell, from North Manchester CID, said: "Up until a few weeks ago, the building was used as a care home for the elderly.

"It is now unusable and has significant fire and smoke damage throughout the building.

"If you did see anything that night, no matter how insignificant you may feel the information is, please get in touch."
