Gorton man injured after being run over by own car

A man has been left with neck injuries after having his car driven at him by a "reckless thief".

The 24-year-old's car was taken from outside his home on Buckley Road, Gorton, at 03:10 BST on Tuesday.

He pulled on his clothes and chased the Vauxhall Corsa into a cul-de-sac, where the driver turned it around and drove at him, knocking him over.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released on bail pending inquiries.

The man was treated for his injuries at Manchester Royal Infirmary and later discharged.

The car was found abandoned in Piperhill Avenue, Northenden.

Det Sgt Shagufta Khan said: "His instinct was to run after his car as it disappeared off into the distance and it must have been terrifying to be driven at by your own car.

"He was hurt, but given the recklessness of this car thief, we could have been dealing with an even more serious incident."
