Twelve-year-old boy dies after Rochdale car crash

A 12-year-old boy who was hit by a car in Greater Manchester has died.

Umar Hussein, from Deeplish, Rochdale, was struck at the junction of Manchester Road and Bolton Road, Castleton, on Thursday afternoon.

He was taken to hospital to be treated for serious head injuries but died in the early hours of Friday.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them.

PC Paul Hailwood said: "Our thoughts are with Umar's family, who have understandably been left devastated following the death of their young boy in the early hours of this morning.

"We have officers supporting them as best we can at this difficult time and are carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the full facts around what happened last night."
