Atherton handbag thief's attack on elderly woman 'cowardly'
An elderly woman has been hurt in a "disgusting and cowardly attack" which saw her pushed over and kicked by a handbag thief in Greater Manchester.
The 85-year-old woman was approached by a man in Elizabeth Street in Atherton at about 10:10 GMT on Thursday.
The man, described as white, about 40, slight and of average height, pushed her to the ground and kicked her in the back, before escaping with her handbag.
PC John Catterall said the attack had left her "injured and shocked".
"This was a disgusting and cowardly attack on a vulnerable member of our community," he said.
"The fact that he pushed and kicked an 85-year-old woman tells us something about the type of person this man is."
He added residents would be "angered by what has happened and I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the robbery to contact us as soon as possible".
