Man found dead by police officer on Chorlton road

A man has been found dead on a street in south Manchester.

The man was found on Wilbraham Road in Chorlton by an officer on patrol just before 05:00 GMT.

Greater Manchester Police said part of the road had been closed and an investigation had begun to find out how the man died.

It is not yet known whether the death is being treated as suspicious. Anyone with information is being urged to contact police.

Supt Martin Greenhalgh said: "We are at the very early stages of trying to establish how this man died.

"At this time we do not know who he is or even whether or not his death is suspicious.

"I would ask the public to bear with us while we conduct our investigation and we will of course issue updates as soon as we know more."
