A thief took the rings from the fingers of a 90-year-old woman in a Greater Manchester care home, police said.

Officers were called to The Heathlands Village, Prestwich, following reports that three rings had been stolen from the woman between 9 and 23 February.

Sgt Trevor Reid, of Greater Manchester Police, said it was a "deplorable crime".

He said they were working closely with the care home to identify the person responsible.

Sgt Reid added: "Whoever is responsible has physically removed the rings from her fingers and we are working closely with managers and staff to identify the person responsible.

"If anyone has any information or has been approached with a view to buying the stolen rings, please call us."
