Three sex workers 'raped in Manchester city centre'

Three women sex workers were raped and another was sexually assaulted in one evening in Manchester city centre, police said.

The incidents are alleged to have taken place in the Fairfield Street area between 20:30 and 22:30 GMT on Tuesday.

Greater Manchester Police officers said they believe the offences, committed separately, were linked.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and is currently in police custody for questioning.

Ch Supt Russ Jackson said: "These are very serious sexual attacks involving violence and we are very seriously concerned.

"Thankfully none of the women suffered serious injuries but they are understandably traumatised."

He added: "We are working closely with specially trained officers to obtain their accounts so that we can bring the person responsible to justice."
