Man sprayed with acid outside home in Withington

A 22-year-old man was left with serious facial injuries in an acid attack outside his home, police said.

The man was attacked as he got out of his black BMW car on Arnfield Road, Withington, Manchester, at 00:30 BST on Wednesday.

He was approached by two men wearing balaclavas, who are thought to have been waiting for him in his garden, and acid was sprayed in his face.

Police said the incident was believed to be a deliberately targeted attack.

Following the attack, the victim ran down Arnfield Road to seek help. The men in balaclavas left the area.

'Horrendous attack'

He arrived at Withington fire station, where he was then taken to hospital. Medics continue to treat him for burns to his face and eye.

Det Ch Insp Dave Pester, from Greater Manchester Police, said they were investigating a number of lines of inquiry.

He said: "The reason for this horrendous attack is not yet known, but I am certain that neither robbery or burglary were the motive."

Officers have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
