A man has appeared in court charged with escaping lawful custody after two men fled from a prison van when it was ambushed in Salford.

Stevie McMullen, 31, from Salford, appeared before Manchester magistrates and was remanded in custody to appear at crown court on Wednesday.

Police are offering £10,000 for information leading to the arrest of a second man, Ryan McDonald, of Salford.

McDonald, 20, was freed on his way to court on 30 April by three masked men.

They ambushed the prison van he was travelling in on Regent Road, Salford.

Two other men, aged 25 and 27, who were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, are still being questioned.

McDonald was jailed on Friday in his absence for seven years and 10 months, having earlier admitted his part in a string of raids on pawnbrokers' shops in Salford and Manchester.
