A 53-year-old patient has been arrested after a fellow 70-year-old patient was attacked with a fire extinguisher at a Greater Manchester hospital.

Police said the older man suffered a broken arm and injuries to his head in the attack, which took place on Sunday night at the Royal Bolton Hospital.

Officers went to the hospital following reports a man was threatening staff and patients on a hospital ward.

The 53-year-old remains in police custody for questioning.
