Girl, 13, raped on way to school in Wigan

A 13-year-old girl was raped on her way to school in Greater Manchester.

The girl was walking in an area of Wigan when a man threatened her, dragged her into nearby wasteland and raped her, police said.

Officers said the girl was left "absolutely distraught" by the attack, which took place between 07:30 BST and 08:30 BST.

The man is described as white, in his 30s, wearing a blue vest and three-quarter length khaki shorts.

Det Ch Insp Howard Millington said: "This is a truly shocking attack, in which a young girl has been targeted on her way to school, leaving her, understandably, absolutely distraught."
