Whitefield kidnap victim shot in shoulder

A 28-year-old man was kidnapped near his home in Greater Manchester and taken to West Yorkshire where he was shot, police have said.

Greater Manchester Police were alerted at 12:30 BST on Sunday after the man from Whitefield failed to return home.

He was found a short time later in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, with a gunshot wound in his shoulder.

The man was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries where he remains in a stable condition.

Detectives are investigating whether he may have been kidnapped near his home in Whitefield and taken by car to West Yorkshire where he was shot.

Det Ch Insp Ian Crewe of GMP's Major Incident Team said: "Since this man was shot we have been working behind the scenes to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

"What we do know for sure is that he left his house at about 9.30am Sunday morning and was driven away in a black Ford Focus.

"He was later found with a gunshot injury near Holmfirth just over three hours later."

Appealing for witnesses he added: "A man has been seriously injured and is lucky to be alive. It is therefore imperative that we get to the bottom of what happened."
