Man, 93, dies after Oldham care home assault

A 93-year-old man has died after being assaulted in a care home in Oldham.

Police were called to Acorn Lodge, Failsworth, on 22 October. The man and another resident, 73, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Both men were discharged, but the older man returned for treatment for a hand infection six days later.

On 8 November, the man died. A post-mortem examination found septicaemia to be the cause of his death.

Greater Manchester Police has only just released any details.

Det Ch Insp Joanne Rawlinson said they were currently treating his death as "unexplained".

She said: "Inquiries are continuing and we want to reassure care home residents, their families and the wider community that incidents of this nature are rare and we are doing all we can to understand what happened."

The care home, in Guido Street, cares for residents with complex mental health needs as well as other medical conditions.
