Two men have been charged in connection with alleged racist abuse against ex-Manchester United footballer Andrew Cole on a Dublin-to-Manchester flight.

Lee Patrick Byrne, 28, from Dublin, was charged with a racially-aggravated public order offence and Gregory Horan, 26, of no fixed address, with being drunk on a plane.

The pair were arrested when the flight landed in Manchester on Sunday.

Mr Byrne and Mr Horan were remanded on bail by Trafford magistrates.

Mr Cole, 42, is heavily involved with the Kick It Out campaign along with other black footballers, which aims to stamp out racist abuse from the stands and in the dressing room.
