Two arrested over Oldham hammer attack on pensioner

Two men have been arrested after a pensioner was attacked with a hammer.

The 69-year-old man was hit twice after the door to his house in Spencer Street, Oldham, was kicked down at 01:00 GMT on Tuesday.

Police said the victim crawled to his wife, 63, in the bedroom and they barricaded themselves in while burglars stole a phone and handbag.

The arrested men, aged 23 and 30, are being questioned on suspicion of assault.

The victim was treated in hospital for a fractured skull.
