A gas canister has been used to blow a cash machine out of a wall of a bank in Bolton.

Staff at a nearby Asda supermarket in Hillview Road, Astley Bridge, heard a "loud bang" at about 04:20 GMT, then saw four men driving off.

The front of HSBC Bank machine was left hanging out of the wall. Police said the gang fled empty-handed.

Officers examined a device left at the scene and said it was "some kind of gas canister".
