The family of a man who has died nine days after being attacked at a flat in Greater Manchester have said their "hearts have been broken".

Christopher Fields, 37, was assaulted in the property on Old Chapel Street in Stockport on 12 December.

He died on Sunday, and a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of his death is due to take place.

A 23-year-old man has appeared before Stockport magistrates charged with attempted murder over the attack.

Mr Fields' family said he was "the best son, brother and family member anyone could ask for".

"Our hearts have been broken. Words cannot express our pain.

"All that we can say is that we miss him dearly and that he will be forever in our hearts."
