Scouts 1990s sex abuse claim investigated at Bredbury troop

Detectives are investigating an allegation of sexual abuse at a Greater Manchester Scout group in the 1990s.

The inquiry was launched after a 33-year-old man claimed he was abused while he was with the 1st Bredbury and Woodley Scout group in Stockport in 1996.

Officers are appealing for former members of the troop to come forward.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of indecent images and indecent assault, and remains on bail.

As part of the investigation, police searched a home in Dukinfield, Tameside, in 2013 after an indecent photograph of a child was posted on a social media website.

Electrical items were seized and forensically tested.

Det Con Lucy Shaw, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "While of no comfort to the victim in this case, I want to reassure local residents and parents of boys currently at the 1st Bredbury and Woodley Scout group that we are investigating a historical allegation against a person no longer associated with the Scout movement."

"As part of our investigation we have analysed various electrical items and arrested a man on a number of child sex offences but importantly we need trace individuals that attended the Scout group in the mid to late 1990s."
