A 46-year-old woman was pushed to the ground and raped after being approached by a stranger in Greater Manchester.

The woman was found in a "distressed state" in Manchester Road, Heywood at about 01:25 GMT on Wednesday.

She was taken to hospital after she reported the attack at the junction of Birnam Grove and Argyle Street, more than a mile from where she was found.

Her attacker is a man aged about 19 to 20 with jaw-length, mousey-brown hair, said police.

Police are also urging two men who helped her to come forward.

Det Insp Joanne Reid said: "This woman has suffered a terrifying ordeal at the hands of her attacker.

"We are offering her as much support as she needs as she comes to terms with what has happened."
