Higher Broughton fires: Carl Hedgecock appears in court

A man has appeared in court charged with six counts of arson after fires at houses, a block of flats and a vehicle in Greater Manchester.

Police said a house was set on fire on Dunscombe Street, Higher Broughton in the early hours of 1 February.

An hour later, a fire was lit in a stairwell on Great Cheetham Street East. The following morning, a further blaze was reported in Higher Broughton.

At Manchester Magistrates' Court, Carl Hedgecock, 40, was remanded in custody.

Mr Hedgecock, of Firth Close, Salford, is due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on 20 February.

He is accused of three counts of arson with intent to endanger life, three counts of arson reckless as to whether life would be endangered, and two counts of attempted arson.
