A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of an assault victim who suffered serious head injuries at a pub in Rochdale.

Police found 28-year-old Adam Nightingale outside the Mucky Duck on Drake Street just after 00:30 GMT.

He was taken to Bury's Fairfield Hospital where he later died.

Police, who are holding a 38-year-old man on suspicion of murder, are trying to establish whether the attack took place inside or outside the pub.

A second man, aged 31, was arrested in connection with the death and is being held on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Mr Nightingale's family have paid tribute to him, describing him as a "big teddy bear".

The family said in a statement: "He was the nicest guy you could ever meet, he would do anything for anyone.

"We are all devastated he has been taken away from us and he will be missed but never forgotten.."
