A man who repeatedly raped a woman in Greater Manchester has been jailed for eight-and-a-half years.

Anthony Clarkson, 47, of St Ambrose Gardens, Salford had earlier been found guilty of two counts of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape.

He was sentenced on Thursday at Manchester Crown Court.

Clarkson raped a woman at a house in Pendleton on Friday 6 September.

Det Con Emma Cyprien, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "This was a traumatic experience for the victim and I would like to commend her bravery in coming forward and supporting a prosecution.

"Greater Manchester is nationally recognised as a model of good practice in terms of support services available to victims.

"If you, or anybody you know have been a victim of a rape or sexual assault, we have specialist officers to support you through the justice process."
