Part of Greater Manchester's orbital motorway will be closed this weekend because of roadworks.

The anticlockwise carriageway of the M60, between junctions 12 and 13, will shut from 22:00 BST on Saturday until 08:00 on Sunday.

Highways England (HE) will use the time to continue removing overhead gantries as part of its smart motorway project.

The gantries will be removed as they are not considered suitable for the fitting of new electronic signs.

More than seven gantries have been demolished so far as HE carries out work between junctions 8, near Sale, and junction 20 of the M62 near Rochdale.

Later this month, the anticlockwise side of the M60 will be temporarily shut between junctions 10 - at Trafford Park - and 12 at the M62/M602 interchange.

The westbound link road from the M602 to the anticlockwise side of the M60 will also be closed.

Overnight closures are also expected to take place in June to complete the demolitions.
