Gorton gas explosion: Man seriously injured

A man has been seriously injured in a fire and gas explosion at a house in Greater Manchester.

The blast broke out at the property in Abbey Hey Lane, Gorton, shortly after 10:00 BST, reducing parts of the building to rubble.

Firefighters said they managed to contain the fire but part of the house collapsed.

A man was taken to hospital with "serious injuries", Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said.

Abbey Hey Lane was closed between Constable Street and Vine Street, affecting bus routes in the area.

The fire service said there were no signs of fire or gas spreading to adjoining properties.
