Murder probe after man dies in assault outside McDonald's

A man has died after being attacked outside fast food restaurant McDonald's, prompting police to launch a murder investigation.

The man, in his 40s, suffered a number of injuries after the assault in Warrington Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, shortly before 22:50 BST on Wednesday.

He died in hospital. A post-mortem examination is due to take place.

Police believe the attack may involve a group of young men who had been in the restaurant earlier.

Det Supt Jonathan Chadwick said: "We know there were people in the area at the time of this assault and I would appeal directly to them to come forward to police."
