Man jailed for life for murder at St Helens house

A man has been jailed for life for murdering another man at a house on Merseyside.

Paul Hayhurst, 38, admitted stabbing 57-year-old Alex Toner, who was found dead at his home in Brynn Street, St Helens, on 11 August.

A post-mortem examination found Mr Toner died from a single stab wound to the chest.

At Liverpool Crown Court Hayhurst was jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 12 years.

Det Insp Ged Seddon, who led the investigation, said: "On behalf of Merseyside Police I would like to offer my sincere condolences to Alex's family, who have shown great dignity throughout this investigation.

"I hope that the conclusion of this case today will bring some closure for them all."
