Man repairing van killed in crash on Merseyside

A man has died after being struck by a car while he was repairing a van on Merseyside.

A silver Ford Fiesta crashed into a stationary van in Smithdown Road, Allerton, at 1720 GMT on Saturday.

Two men were repairing the back of the van at the time. A 48-year-old, from Wavertree, suffered fatal injuries. The other man suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Ford Fiesta was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition, police said.

His passenger was also injured, as was a pedestrian.
