A 91-year-old man who was found collapsed and seriously hurt in a Liverpool street has died.

Donald Mclaren was found in Blackmoor Drive, near its junction with The Bryceway in West Derby, at about 2330 GMT on Tuesday.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen Mr McLaren in the area on Tuesday night to contact them.

Officers have said he was well-known and liked in the area and it is unclear how he came to be injured.

Det Ch Insp Tracey Hayes said: "Mr McLaren was often seen walking in the area, sometimes quite late into the evening, with the aid of his walking frame.

"We have spoken to a number of people who have come forward since his collapse, but I am confident that others will also have seen Donald and may be able to provide information that proves vital to the investigation.

"Our priority is now to establish how he came to be injured."
