Three held after pedestrian hit by car in Liverpool

Three people have been arrested after a 20-year-old man was killed when he was hit by a car travelling the wrong way on a road in Liverpool city centre

Officers had arrested one of the car's occupants while it was stationary at around 0315 GMT.

The car, which had been reported stolen from the Speke area earlier in the week, then apparently drove off down Dale Street hitting the pedestrian.

Two more people were arrested by police later.

The original police contact with the car before the crash has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission and a locally managed investigation is now under way.
