Arrest after man shot in chest on Merseyside

A 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 23-year-old was shot in the chest on Merseyside.

Officers were called at 2300 GMT on Thursday. They were told a man had been taken to hospital with a bullet wound to his chest.

He is still in a critical condition. Detectives are not sure where he was shot but they believe it was in Kirkby.

The detained man was arrested overnight and is being questioned.

It was the second shooting in the county in three days. A man, 34, was shot in Croxteth on Tuesday night.

Police said they were not linking the two incidents at this stage.
