Woolton pool campaigners petition Liverpool council

Campaigners who fear a Liverpool swimming pool may never re-open have handed in a petition to the council.

Woolton Baths, which was built in the Victorian era and has an 18m pool, has been closed for repairs since November.

Users of the building staged a rally outside Liverpool Town Hall asking for assurances on its future.

They fear that funding cuts could affect its repair budget after the council posted a notice of its continued closure on its website.

The council statement read: "We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

"If your child failed to complete their course of swimming lessons when we closed, you are entitled to a refund for the cancelled lessons.

"The nearest alternative swimming pools are Lifestyles Austin Rawlinson, Lifestyles Garston and Liverpool Aquatics Centre."

A spokesman for Woolton Swimming Club said that the pool was popular and was used by many local groups.
