Merseyside Police officer assault trial date is set

An officer from Merseyside Police has appeared in court charged with assault after the death of a man.

Christopher Shackleton, 42, died from a stroke five days after a disturbance at the Freshfield Hotel in Formby on 24 July 2010.

Andrew Neville Jackson, 27, appeared at Preston Magistrates' Court charged with common assault.

Mr Jackson, of Ennerdale Road, Formby, previously entered a not-guilty plea and will go on trial on 21 February.

He spoke only to confirm his name during a brief hearing and was granted unconditional bail.
