Man shot in leg during 'targeted attack' in Liverpool

A man is in hospital after being shot in the leg in what police said was a targeted attack in Liverpool.

Emergency services found the victim after being called to the Field Lane area of Fazakerley on Sunday night.

Merseyside police believe the 20-year-old was shot near to Maureen Walk and the area has been cordoned off for forensic examinations.

House-to-house inquiries are being carried out and patrols have been increased in the area.

Det Supt Richie Davies, of the force's Matrix team, said: "At this early stage of the investigation the motive for the shooting is unclear although we believe it was targeted.

"Merseyside Police takes incidents of this nature extremely seriously and urge anyone with any information to contact us so we can take those responsible off the streets."

The man is currently being treated for his injury, which is not believed to be serious.
