Liverpool man dies 'after being deliberately run over'

A 23-year-old man has died in hospital after he was deliberately run over in a Liverpool street.

Merseyside Police said they were treating the incident in North Hill Street, Toxteth, at about 0020 GMT on Thursday as murder.

Officers believe the victim, described only as a local man, had been involved in an argument with those responsible shortly before he was struck.

Police have appealed to anyone with any information to contact them.

'Keep searching'

Det Ch Insp Kath Adams said: "Following extensive inquiries today, we believe the car was deliberately driven at the victim and succeeded in colliding with him at the third attempt.

"A large-scale investigation is now under way to trace the driver of the car and any passengers."

The detective urged those responsible to hand themselves in.

"We have executed warrants at several homes today and we will keep searching until we find you. Do the right thing and tell us what happened," she said.

She appealed to anyone at the scene, or anyone who knew the whereabouts of a dark saloon seen driving erratically from the area, to contact police.
