Cheshire girl, nine, bitten in face by Jack Russell
A nine-year-old girl is being treated in hospital after being bitten in the face by a dog in Cheshire.
The girl was walking her collie springer spaniel in Clincton Wood nature reserve, Halton, when it was attacked by a Jack Russell.
Cheshire Police said she was bitten while trying to protect her dog, which was uninjured. The girl suffered an injury around the corner of her eye.
Officers are now trying to trace the owner and appealed for witnesses.
Pc Stephanie Rawlins said extra patrols were being carried out in the area.
"Unfortunately the incident was not reported to police until the following morning and since then officers have searched all the woodland area and carried out house-to-house inquiries to try to identify the dog and owner," she said.
"Incidents like this are rare, however. I would urge people to be aware of this incident and contact police if they believe they may have seen the dog."
