Youths bailed after man left critical by Anfield assault
Two teenagers questioned over a "nasty" attack that left a man in a critical condition in hospital in Liverpool have been released on bail.
Officers were called to reports of an altercation between a man and two youths outside an off-licence in Anfield at 0250 BST on Saturday.
A 26-year-old man found with serious head injuries was taken to hospital.
Two boys, aged 16 and 17, were held on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Acting Det Insp Martin Humphrys said: "This was a nasty assault that has left a young man fighting for his life in hospital."
He appealed for anyone passing in a car or on foot, who may have seen what happened, to contact the force.
Merseyside Police cordoned off part of Lower Breck Road and Priory Road for forensic examinations on Saturday.
CCTV from the area was also being collected for analysis.
