A council building in Sefton has been cordoned off after reports a window had been broken by a possible gun shot.

A member of staff noticed damage to the window at Merton House on Stanley Road in Bootle on Thursday.

Merseyside Police said a bullet was recovered from the scene and has been sent off for forensic examination.

It is believed the shot was fired sometime on Wednesday night, but no-one was injured. Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

CCTV is being examined and high visibility patrols have also been stepped up in the area.
