Guests escape fire at Southport hotel

Guests at a hotel in Southport had to be evacuated after a fire broke out in one of the bedrooms.

Many of the people staying at the three-storey Nile Hotel on King Street had already gone to bed when the blaze broke out just before 2330 BST.

A 23-year-old man was taken to hospital with breathing difficulties after he tried to put the flames out in the first-floor room.

The fire service is carrying out an investigation into the cause.
