A 21-year-old man has been injured in a shooting on Merseyside.

The man, believed to be the victim of a targeted attack, was found lying in Longfield Road, Litherland, shortly before midnight on Saturday.

He was taken to hospital with wounds to his legs and shoulder. The injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police said it was not clear where he had been shot and officers had cordoned off Longfield Road, Hornby Boulevard and Violet Road for forensic work.

The attackers are thought to have fled the scene along Violet Road, towards the Railway bridge and Akenside Street.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police.
