Racist banners hung over M62 motorway in Huyton

Banners with racist slogans have been hung from a motorway bridge on Merseyside.

The banners were found on a footbridge over the M62, off Old Dover Road in Huyton, on Thursday afternoon and at lunchtime on Friday.

Police removed the banners on both occasions and are now examining CCTV in the area, a spokesman said.

"This type of behaviour is totally unacceptable," Ch Insp Kevin Wellens, of Merseyside Police, said.

"The people who have done this should be left in no doubt that their behaviour will not be tolerated and robust action will be taken to ensure they are arrested and prosecuted for their actions.

"We take racial abuse very seriously and have dedicated units to investigate such crimes in Merseyside."

He urged anyone with any information to contact Merseyside Police or Crimestoppers.
