Bridge car crash: Runcorn girl, 16, critically injured

A 16-year-old girl is in a critical condition in hospital after a car crash in Cheshire in which three other people were seriously injured.

The girl, from Runcorn, was in a Ford Fiesta when it was in collision with a VW van on the A49 Warrington Road at Acton Swing Bridge, Weaverham.

Fire crews cut the girl from the car along with two 21-year-old men and a 14-year-old girl, all from Runcorn.

The driver of the van suffered minor injuries, Cheshire Police said.

Witness appeal

Officers closed the road for a number of hours for investigations following the collision at 2305 BST.

The driver was taken to Warrington Hospital with serious injuries, while his passengers were taken to Leighton Hospital.

Police said the 16-year-old girl was later transferred to North Staffordshire University Hospital for treatment to a serious head injury and broken bones.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or the vehicles being driven before it is urged to contact Cheshire Constabulary.
