Man accused of Birkenhead market trader's murder

A 33-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a market trader who died two years after being attacked on Merseyside.

Bashir Ahmed was assaulted at his flat, at the Woodlands in Birkenhead, on 9 August 2007.

The 63-year-old died at Manchester Royal Infirmary, in August 2009.

Merseyside Police confirmed Gerard Brian Murphy, of no fixed address, had been charged with murder and is due before magistrates later.
