A 64-year-old man accused of murdering a Liverpool grandmother almost six years ago has appeared in court.

David Butler, of Albert Grove in Wavertree, Liverpool, is charged with the murder of Anne Marie Foy.

The 46-year-old, who was working as a prostitute at the time, was found dumped in a wooded area near the Royal Liverpool Hospital, in September 2005.

Mr Butler appeared at Liverpool Crown Court via video-link and was remanded to reappear on 3 October.

The partially-clothed body of Ms Foy, a mother-of-four, was found in bushes on Crown Street the day after the she was last seen alive.

She had been beaten and strangled.
